Field Research Foundations: An intensive 3-day onsite bootcamp on foundational qualitative research skills.
The Field Research Lab is supporting organisations collecting field data to upskill field researchers/research assistants to deliver reliable and insightful qualitative data.
Often, the true extent of data quality issues only surfaces when it’s too late to rectify them. Sometimes, this leads to additional and unplanned costs for organisations seeking to re-evaluate the data or collect new data?
Poor data quality can lead to incorrect insights, flawed strategies, inefficient operations and increased operational costs. Some of these may have real human costs. In an increasingly data-driven world, poor data quality that can impact the decision-making and overall performance of organisations.
Program Structure
Participants will engage in learning, practice and feedback sessions with our experts to build and strengthen their qualitative research skills. Participants join the program in-person for 3 days onsite (6-8 hours per day).
Day 1: Basic Research Principles
The Basics

Day 2: Thinking critically about research
- Basic qualitative research principles (quick review)

Build Foundational Skills in
Basic Research Principles
Strengthen foundational skills in field research and qualitative data collection.
Probing
Examine, investigate, or explore phenomena in a deep and searching way
Question Framing
Learn to create well-structured, clear, and engaging questions that elicit meaningful and valuable responses
Empathy + active listening
Learn strategies to tuning into respondents’ conversations and emotional experience.
Managing groups and time
Improve your time and group management skills.
MANAGING BIAS
Explore techniques to identify and mitigate bias in data collection.
Features and Activities
The bootcamp comprises pre-assessment and post assessment of field officer skills for qualitative research and a series of activities in-between to upskill the participants.
