About ResearchRound

“Ultimately, strengthening research capacity will help produce a global pool of researchers who can use current knowledge and techniques to develop strategies, tools and methods to tackle complex problems worldwide ” WHO, 2016

Enabling the African Research Community.

African researchers require more support and resources to do impactful research and contribute to global knowledge. Despite various efforts among local and international organisations and funders, there are still major gaps in research capacity, researcher pipelines, access to research funding, quality of research outputs and academic-public-private sector partnerships. Africa still contributes less than 2% of global research output and hold 0.1% of global patents while having 18% of the global population and some of the toughest developmental challenges. Africa’s population is billed to increase to 25% by 2050, yet there are few signs that African research will develop to keep up. Africa’s poor domestic and external funding for research is also well documented.

ResearchRound is supporting the systems strengthening, capacity building and uptake for research and innovation by Africans. Our target are people in academic institutions, research institutions and private researchers across Africa and Africans in similar institutions outside the continent.

Our Objectives

After our first attempts at getting researchers to share their works with us, we discovered we needed to do more to educate, train and support young and established researchers to make it easier to do quality research in Africa. Some of our objectives include:

AWARENESS TO MOTIVATE

We hope to design awareness strategies that inspire undergraduates to embrace the values of good research and be keen to take on new ideas, problems or questions despite the limiting environment.

PROVIDING CLARITY IN RESEARCH

Our style prioritizes clarity and ensures cumbersome research works are shared in simple formats that are clear to the general public; thus becoming more usable.

TRAINING TO EMPOWER

We hope to work with different partners to provide basic training that equip people with the tools needed to carry out quality research. Bridging the skills gap will enable more people to find it easier to take on the big questions that researchers are meant to help the society inspect.

STRENGTHENING THE AFRICAN RESEARCH COMMUNITY

We hope to build a more connected community that supports the growth of research professionally, academically and financially.

COMMUNICATING WORKS OF RESEARCH BY AFRICANS

We help researchers communicate their works with the general public in a way that is understandable, meaningful and inspiring. We enable entrepreneurs, social innovators, nongovernmental organizations collaborate with researchers to move forward.

EXPANDING THE NOTION OF RESEARCH

We want to provide a platform that allows anyone who is able to share new sources of truth beyond the rigours of traditional approaches to research.

ENABLING COLLABORATION AMONG AFRICAN RESEARCHERS

Development is more assured when works of research and build on other works of research. Collaboration ensures more gets done, with less waste and more capability. We hope to foster collaboration among researchers, the society and sponsors.

ENABLING SUPPORT FOR AFRICAN RESEARCH

We hope to increase the amount of support African researchers get from the society, donors and sponsors. We hope to do this in a way that is accountable to the providers of support and adequate to the recipients
